National Nutrition Month + CUH Culinary Club

Each March we celebrate National Nutrition Month -- a time to learn about making informed food choices, healthful eating habits, and about the proper physical activity to support a healthy lifestyle. Below are resources to learn more about your own nutrition and lifestyle choices as well as information about Chaminade University's newest student organization, the Culinary Club.

Sabate, J. (2019). Environmental nutrition: connecting health and nutrition with environmentally sustainable diets. Academic Press.

"Explores the connection between diet, environment sustainability and human health. Current food systems are a major contributor to our most pressing health and environmental issues, including climate change, water scarcity, food insecurity and chronic diseases. This book not only seeks to increase our understanding of the interrelatedness of these major global issues, but also aids in the creation of new solutions." -- from publisher

Logue, A. W. (2014). The psychology of eating and drinking. Routledge.

"The insightful, thought-provoking, and engaging book explores the truth behind how and why we eat and drink what we do. Instead of promising easy answers to eliminating picky eating or weight loss, this book approaches controversial eating and drinking issues from a more useful perspective -- explaining the facts to promote understanding of our bodies... explores basic eating and drinking processes, such as hunger and taste, as well as how disorders, alcohol use, and cuisine." -- from publisher

Wardlaw, G. M. (2011). Contemporary nutrition. McGraw-Hill Higher Education.

The authors emphasize that the general population consists of individuals with varying genetic and cultural backgrounds, and these individuals will have varying responses to diet... explores topics such as the body's handling of carbohydrate, protein and fats; functions of vitamins and minerals, the use of supplements; the role of water in the human body; energy balance, obesity theories and treatments; and digestion, absorption and transport of nutrients." -- from publisher
